Lower Secondary

What parents should know about their children at Lower Secondary (Grades 7-8).

Students’ lives at these levels are marked by significant cognitive, social, and emotional changes. During this phase, students experience rapid growth in their ability to think abstractly and critically, begin to form a more defined sense of identity, and develop greater independence and self-awareness.

These developmental characteristics shape their learning styles and individual abilities, requiring a tight and positive collaboration between the school and the parents, and reinforced by a tailored approach to education that addresses their evolving needs.

Students’ developmental Characteristics,

Grades 7-8 students are transitioning from concrete operational thinkers to formal operational thinkers, (Piaget, 1977). This means they are becoming capable of more abstract and hypothetical reasoning.

They also experience heightened emotional sensitivity and are more aware of their own and others' perspectives, which can influence their social interactions and self-esteem (Erikson, 1968).

KNO’s Approach,

To cater to these developmental needs, KNO Schools create an environment that supports and nurtures the unique characteristics of each student. We employ teaching methodologies that encourage critical thinking, problem-solving, and independent learning, helping students to engage deeply with the material and develop their intellectual capabilities.

Our classrooms are designed to be interactive and collaborative, promoting a sense of community and teamwork. This approach not only enhances academic learning but also helps students develop important social skills and emotional intelligence.

KNO Lower Secondary Programme,

The KNO Lower Secondary Programme framework aligns perfectly with these goals. It provides a rigorous academic curriculum that challenges students while offering flexibility to adapt to their individual needs and interests.

Parental Involvement,

Recognizing the critical role parents play in this phase, we encourage active parental involvement in their children's education. Parents are required to support their children's academic progress, particularly through the completion of homework and assignments.

This partnership and transparent communication between home and school ensures that students receive consistent support, enabling them to thrive both academically and personally.

Our educators are well versed and experienced to ensure that KNO students are well-prepared for the challenges of higher secondary education and beyond.
